Major branding FAIL.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

The other day as I was driving home from Royal Oak I decided that I wanted a pizza from Hungry Howies. (Their “Howie Nowie” is only $5.55 and it’s better than the similar deal from Little Caesar’s.) I drove the extra mile out of my way and as I was pulling into the driveway I saw some signs sticking out of the ground advertising the grand opening of a hair place — haircuts for only $10. I’ve been meaning to get my hair cut lately so I sat for a second and contemplated whether I should go get it cut then or wait til tomorrow. I decided to wait until the next day and just go inside and get my pizza.

When I came out with my pizza, in addition to the usual pizza coupons they slap on the top of the box was an advertisement for the new hair place next door — Bob’s Chop Shop Family Hair Care. Um . . . no thanks. As if the name alone weren’t enough of a deterrent, check out their logo:

Now, I’m no expert on branding, but this looks like a place NOT where I would get my hair cut, but perhaps buy

  • a tattoo
  • stolen auto parts
  • motorcycle accessories, or
  • meat

I’m tempted to walk in with a mini audio recorder and talk to them. I wonder if they realize that their branding is not exactly the best concept. . . unless, of course, they only cater to families that ride Harleys and want mullets and mohawks. In that case, they should stick with the flame motif and just call it “Bob’s Chop Shop Mullets & Mohawks.”

I dunno . . . what do you think?

Pardon my damn dust.

By that damn redhead | April 22, 2009

It’s been a while.

I put this domain up for sale last year but nobody bought it.

Not sure why. It’s a great domain, don’tcha think?

I’ve had another blog for some time now at thatdamnredhead.net that focuses on social media & tech. People seem to like it, but I’ve also been asked by others if I do writing other than social media stuff. I told them the truth – that I’ve been blogging since the late ’90s, when it was “online journaling” and have been here and there at various domains and communities all over the web since then, by various monikers.

I’ve got a lot of domains that I’m not using, but it seemed right to resurrect mydamnblog.net. It goes well with thadamnredhead.net . . . I like the word “damn”. I’ve got other sites I’m working on, like StacyLukas.com, which will be a portfolio and hub/gateway to the rest of me online.

I’m going to stick with thadamnredhead.net as my social media/tech blog, but since people want to read me write about other things, I’m going to make this damn blog for everything else. We’ll see where that takes us.

It feels good to be back.
